Part one: Overview of the Health Information Management (HIM) Career. Health information management (HIM) is the practice of acquiring, analyzing, and protecting digital and traditional medical information vital to providing quality patient care. It is a combination of business, science, and information technology. Health Information (HI) professionals have an extraordinary impact on healthcare. They are the link between clinicians, administrators, technology designers, operations, and information technology professionals. This session will discuss the typical career pathways of an HI professional, including the various AHIMA credentials available.

Part two: (Panel discussion) Building the KSA Coding Workforce
With the recent implementation of the new KSA Billing System and the transforming healthcare model, a vast team of HIM Professional coders must be put in place. Panelists will address the practicalities of launching a Coding department including potential sources for the 10,000 plus coding professionals needed to achieve the maximum benefit from the new system. Panelists will discuss how to set up successful coding processes and teams along with the most relevant appropriate training programs.
